Why did you start
running ?? |
I was fed up being kicked up and down a football pitch every Saturday and was advised by a former harrier , Ian Kerr , that running was much more rewarding – 15 years on , to many injuries to mention, (but not as many as Lindsay) I’m still plodding along.

Funniest Moment in
Athletics |
On route to Dundee for the National relays , the bus we were sharing with Irvine broke down. A passing Rangers supporters bus stopped and offered to take us to Dundee. As I am an ardent Celtic fan ,this was a most unpleasant experience.

Favourite Race and Why
?? |
Any cross country race where there is a large number of runners , like the West Districts or the Nationals . Because of the large field of runners you always feel involved in the race.

Any Funny Stories about
other Harriers ?? |
Watching Billy (Tough of the Track) Roberton recovering from hypothermia after running at the Ayrshire cross country championships at Craigie Park in Ayr. To set the scene – it was mid December , bitter cold wind , frequent sleet showers , which, during the race, changed to heavy snow , causing virtually white out conditions. The majority of runners were well prepared for the extreme weather i.e . helly hansen , gloves , woolly bunnet etc. Billy in his wisdom ran with his harrier vest only - the mesh type , specifically designed for warm summer runs.
