Senior/U20 Event Report 26th June 2025

It is safe to say that this summer season is flying in, and we’ve even had the bonus of some
ACTUAL summer weather conditions along the way! Our athletes have been out and about
on track, field, trail, hills and roads and as always we have a lot of good news to report (if
we’ve missed you out please let us know!).

We start this week straight after Roon the Toon with the Linwood Open Graded on Tuesday
the 10 th of June. Whilst a lot of our track athletes were preparing for the Ayrshire OG the
following evening, U20 athlete Gregor Samson made the most of the fair conditions to
smash his 800m PB, taking second place in 2:03.92 in his heat – great running Gregor!

Wednesday the 11 th saw big numbers of our senior and U20 athletes turn out at the second
of the Ayrshire OG meets. The first event on the track was the 800m, and the first race was
a sea of blue and white. Matthew Monachello took the win in 2:01.92, tracked by Connor
Scobie who ran a big PB in 2:02.64. Ross Granger was 4 th in 2:18.14, and Mark Alexander
was 6 th with a PB of 2:20.51. In race 2 we only had one U20 athlete – Eve Starritt who was
4 th in 2:25.48. In the 200m, David Inglis opened the account for team Kilmarnock with 3 rd
place and a PB of 24.72s. In the second race, Molly Hunter also returned a PB in 26.53s in
4 th place, closely followed by Brooke Dunlop in a SB of 26.55s. Race 3 saw Alistair Craig
finish in 4 th place in 28.41s, and in race 4 Douglas Dickson was 6 th in a SB of 29.40s. David
Inglis was once again in action in the 400m where he took the win in a new PB of 55.64s. In
the field events, Brooke Dunlop was 3 rd (1 st U23W) in the javelin with a 30.44m throw and 5 th
(1 st U23W) in the shot with 8.71m – all in all a great evening for our senior and U20 athletes!
Saturday the 14 th saw Kat Kelly competing at the Saltire Trail race 5k at Athelstaneford in
East Lothian. Doing the club proud as always, Kat was 3 rd overall and 1 st lady in 20:47. Also
on the 14 th , Jonathon Downey was competing in the 2025 Senior Inter Counties Mountain
race in Wales representing Scotland where he finished a very credible 42 nd place (9 th U23) in
53:31. Another athlete running up hills recently was our hill runner extraordinaire Roddy
Pugh, who was our sole contender at the Cort-ma Law Hill race in Lennoxtown on
Wednesday the 18th, where he finished in 81 st overall and 6 th M60 in 1:16:32.

Friday the 20 th saw the return of the ever-popular Brian Goodwin 10k (sure its popularity has
nothing to do with the burger and beer at the end…) . This race always attracts a quality
field and it was great to see a total of 13 Harriers toe the line on the night. First back was
Ross Granger in 37:47 (48 th overall and 5 th V40), followed by Kat Kelly in 38:40 (58 th overall
and 1 st FV40 – well done Kat!). David Anderson was next back in 41:52, followed by Gary
Martin in 42:53, then Mike Corson in 44:45 (2 nd V60 – well done Mike!). Calum Haswell was
next in 45:20, followed by Hannah O’Shea (49:47), Viv Lambert in 51:26 (2 nd V50 – great
running Viv!), Michelle Goldie (51:44), Gillian Wishart (51:56 and 3 rd V55), Rhona O’Neill
(54:24), Mark Lyden (55:24) and Amy Alexander (59:00) – well done all in red hot conditions!
Not so far from Pollok Park, John Speirs was preparing to start the West Highland Way race
– running the full length of the WHW from Milngavie to Fort William (approx. 95 miles and
14,000ft of elevation). The race starts in Milngavie at 1am on the Saturday morning, and
John made it all the way to Fort William in an incredible 23:47:20, finishing in 48 th place
overall and 8 th V50 – an incredible achievement in extremely challenging conditions which
saw nearly 60 of the original 240 or so starters not completing the course.

In the vicinity of the WHW race on Saturday morning we also had athletes taking part in the
Loch Lomond 5k and 10k races – a much better plan in that heat than 95 plus miles! In the
10k, first back in 3 rd place overall and 1 st V40 was David McLure who got round in 36:42 –
great to see you back racing David! Next back in 5 th overall and 1 st U20 was Jamie Work, a

mere fraction behind David in 36:43, with Mark Alexander rounding up the top 3 Harriers in
16 th overall (4 th V40) in 38:11, securing the men’s team prize for the club. Scott Lyden was
next across the line in 45:14, with Natalie Sharp running a PB of 53:57 to round up the 10k
results. In the 5k, mum and daughter duo Susan and Eilidh Ballantyne also made sure that
the Harriers made a mark! Eilidh was 15 th overall, 3 rd lady and 2 nd senior lady in 20:55, whilst
mum Susan went one better taking the V50 1 st prize in 24:46 – fantastic running ladies.
Fresh back from an incredible first collegiate season out in the States, Jamie Phillips made
his first race back in the UK a great one at the BMC Loughborough Grand Prix meet on
Saturday afternoon, finishing a close 3 rd in the A race in a new PB of 1:46.80 – agonisingly
close to Commonwealth standard, we’re all rooting for you for that one Jamie! Brother
Jordan was also competing at this meet, finishing 4 th in the E race 800m in a season’s best
of 1:52.22 – well done Jordan.

The glorious weather sadly started to break on Sunday just in time for the 4J Studios
National Track Relay Championships in Dundee. Our sole senior team was for the senior
ladies 3×800, where Jennifer Beattie, Morgan McBurnie and Eve Starritt finished the race in
pretty grim wind (plus torrential rain for Eve!) for 6 th place overall.
Rounding up this week’s report, Robert McHarg was in the Czech Republic for a masters
800m race at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava on the 24 th of June where he finished in 7 th
overall (1 st V60) in 2:10.53 – great running Rob.

No changes to the league tables this week, but plenty still to play for – make sure to get that
Parkrun time banked during this quieter spell in the league calendar! Entries are now open
for the Ayrshire Track and Field champs on the 20 th of July which is a great introduction to
this sort of event. We will also shortly be looking for names for the next SNAL at
Grangemouth on the 27 th of July, and also the final CSSAL match at Grangemouth (please
note change from Scotstoun) on the 10 th of August – don’t be shy!
