Senior/U20 Event Report 30th April 2026

We are now at the end of April and since our last report there have been a huge amount of events – it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with you all but we’re doing our best!  If we miss your event then please reach out and we’ll include it next time, we love good news.

Our reporting this week sees us start in Linlithgow for the Fast n Flat 5k on Saturday the 18th of April.  This race is always popular with early season PB hunters, and we had a number of athletes competing on the day.  Fastest round the course in race 3 was Jordan Phillips who finished 14th in 15:21.4.  Also in race 3 was Jamie Work who was 73rd in 16:25.4.  In race 4, Owen Walpole was 27th in 16:22.9, and in race 5 U16 athlete Jamie Walker deserves a mention for a 17:22.7 run for 34th, with Mark Alexander finishing in 58th in 17:45.5.  In race 6 we were well represented, with Ross Granger 10th in 17:57.2, Jim Phillips 16th in 18:14.0, Josh Mclymont 21st in 18:19.6 and Gary Martin rounding up a set of great results in 54th in 19:28.2 – great running guys!

Sunday the 19th saw a trip to Manchester for one of the first of the spring marathons (and first of 3 to report this time around!) for 3 registered Kilmarnock athletes.  Amy Mitchell made her debut to finish in 4:32:17, followed by Kaz Hume (4:37:42) and Jamie Robb (5:27:04) – well done all.

Also on the 19th, the first of the SNAL meetings took place on a glorious spring day at Grangemouth.  Our U18 athletes all performed brilliantly so it was up to the U20 and seniors to match that energy.  On the track, Gregor Samson was 3rd in race 1 of the 800m to post a new PB of 1:59.30, whilst Eve Starritt was 7th in race 1 for the ladies in 2:27.96.  Eve was also back in action in the 400m where she was 8th in race 1 in 64.35.  Meanwhile in the field, Logan Mitchell was 1st senior in the discus with 39.17m and also took top points in the senior shot with a 12.99m effort.

We know that summer is on the way when the midweek races start, and on Wednesday the 22nd a total of 26 Harriers took on the Rons Runners Spring 5k held at Eglinton Park.  Full results are available here and a huge well done to everyone who took part, but special mention goes to our prize winners on the night – overall winner Jonathon Downey (16:13), third place man Owen Walpole (17:04), first U20 man Nicholas Latto (18:22), first lady overall Sasha I’Anson (20:09) and third lady Kirsty Girvan (20:40).  This race is also an Ayrshire Championship, so on top of the prizes above, medals will also be awarded to Mike Corson (1st Ayrshire V60) and our winning men’s (Jonathon Downey, Owen Walpole, Graeme Quinn, Nicholas Latto) and ladies (Sasha I’Anson, Kirsty Girvan and Izzy Caufield) teams.  Winning teams  = happy team captains, well done all!

On Friday the 24th, two Harriers competed at the monthly 3k on The Green event, with Mark Alexander finishing 5th (10:10) and Lynsey O’Connor 17th overall and 1st lady in 11:25.

Saturday the 25th saw Logan Mitchell as our only senior/U20 athlete in action at the Throws Grand Prix at Grangemouth where he was 1st U23 in the shot with a 13.71m effort, and 1st also in the hammer with 44.61m – well done Logan.

On Sunday the 26th, we had athletes travel to compete in the London Marathon.  Last year’s club spot winner Scott Masterton was first home in the blue and white, running a PB of 2:55:24.  Next back was Lynsey Jamieson who also ran a PB of 3:33:19.  Jade Davis was next home in 4:02:16, and Bethany Brown rounded up the results in 4:38:59.  However, it wasn’t all about London – we also had representation at Blackpool marathon where Graeme Quinn ran just a little outside his PB for 10th overall in 2:48:19, and Natalie Sharp’s hard work was rewarded with a debut result of 4:21:37 – great running from everyone!

A little closer to home, 5 Harriers jumped on the ferry to Arran to compete in the Ormidale 10k.  Craig Ferguson took the win in 33:36, followed home by Louise Baillie in 29th (51:55), Thomas Samson in 30th (52:08), Ian Power in 32nd (53:09) and Robin Bourne in 35th (55:21).

From a league perspective, the competition has now begun!  Our men’s league has Jonathon Downey taking an early lead, with Owen Walpole and Graeme Quinn sitting 2nd and 3rd.  For the ladies, Sasha I’Anson tops the table with Kirsty Girvan and Izzy Caufield just behind.  For anyone who missed the initial communication on the league, races and the tables are attached here – Summer 26.  The next league race is Troon 10k on Wednesday the 13th May then the Land O’Burns the following Wednesday.  Looking forward to seeing a big turnout in blue and white vests!
